The uglies, who have no special skills and are the majority of the population. Then there are the pretties who have special skills that have been surgically enhanced while they were still in pre-pubescent children. The pretties live a life of luxury and parties, while the uglies clean up their messes and do all their work. All pretties work for a company called Special Circumstances that has a worldwide monopoly on major technological advancements due to their comprehensive medical knowledge. All of the medical advances that Special Circumstances develops are then sold at a huge profit to the people of earth. However, Tally is an exception, she was born with a rare neurological disorder known as epilepsy. She is therefore considered a liability to society and is therefore shunned by her family and others, as well as being given the nickname “Fits” for having seizures. In order to make her life as miserable as possible, Tally’s mother instigates a program where Tally will be placed into pre-pubescent child prisoners and then taken away from her family and friends for up to two weeks at a time. However, as Tally grows older, she begins to rebel against the society and the rules set out by it. She quickly becomes determined to live her life on her own terms and escape from Special Circumstances and their medical advances. Tally herself is a pretty who has been given the ability of super speed. She takes her abilities and runs away from home and goes into hiding for a while with another ugly called David, who has the ability to take away pain. However, during one of their random adventures they stumble upon an area where someone has created a small village for people like them; people with disabilities such as Tally’s brain disorder (epilepsy). There they meet Zane, who can run extremely fast, even faster than Tally. Together, the three of them decide to head into the wild and find others like them; people who are unlike anyone else in the world. The other gems that they meet up with are Shay, who has no self-control over her pain receptors and therefore is able to turn down or up her pain threshold at will; Ratchet, who is a muscular brute with prosthetic body parts; Perisido, an ex-surgeon with claws for hands; Ollie, an atypical genius who has developed their own language; and finally Ducky, the leader of The Smoke. cfa1e77820
